Don’t Mess With Boston

“Free Speech Rally”

On Saturday, August 19, the last thing I had time to do was to go to the Boston Common to fight the ridiculous and never-ending battle against racism, hate, and white supremacy. I am sure that 40,000 of my co-conspirators felt the same way.

Needless to say, the counter-protest to the “Boston Coalition for Free Speech” rally was just as astounding in numbers, as was the Women’s March. It goes without saying that the urgency and turnout was prompted by the deadly, August 12, 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA.

The August 19 “Free Speech Rally” planned on the Boston Common may not have been advertised under the auspices of Nazi, Confederate, White Supremacist sympathizers, but those are about the only people who sent a yes RSVP to speak at the rally. And why a free speech rally now? I am suspect of the organizers timing, considering the aggression over the removal of the Confederate statues around the country and the rioting that comes with.

According to Boston.com, “the rally is being organized by Boston Free Speech, which is largely comprised of students in their mid-teens to mid-20s who live in the Greater Boston area.”

Boston Free Speech is defined as “intentionally neutral libertarians,” the Anti-Defamation League said in a blog post Monday that the rally “has been organized under the auspices of the alt lite,” also known as the New Right, a “loosely-connected movement whose adherents generally shun white supremacist thinking, but who are in step with the alt right in their hatred of feminists and immigrants, among others.”

The Boston Coalition for Free Speech may be just that – free speech, but they have some very suspect bed partners. “Tell me with whom you walk and I will tell you who you are.”

There is so much to do in this world and on this planet that continually having to fight and refight the losing proposition of “white supremacy,” gets darn right frustrating. Especially when the people touting “white supremacy” are poor examples thereof. Not to mention that the planet Earth is never going to be all white, alt right, or a Libertarian paradise. Get over it please. We’ve got a planet and a human race to save – and not paying our taxes, subscribing to “civic nationalism,” demanding that individuals pull themselves up by their bootstraps, or thinking one race is better than the other, is not going to save anyone from floods, droughts, famines or even aliens invading from another planet.

One last note to the militant members of the Antifa movement: violence begets violence, begets violence, begets violence. You're better than that, RISE UP with intelligence and love.
