Ribbon Cutting & Kid’s Dance Party June 8 @ NEW Splash Deck at Magazine Beach Park

Friday, June 8 at 3:30pm, Cambridge City Mayor Marc McGovern and Leo Roy, Commissioner of the Department of Conservation and Recreation, officially open the NEW splash deck beside the swimming pool at Magazine Beach Park. Cambridgeport's own DJ Professor TEA (a.k.a. Tom Malone) hosted Toddler’s Dance Party at the site afterwards to celebrate the occasion, so bring your little one and be ready to dance!

Visitors at the park will see that much is afoot. The Powder Magazine renovation is almost complete and DCR has removed the old broken wading pool and reseeded the picnic area. Fences are up to protect that new grass. Magazine Beach Partners has put out 16 Adirondack chairs for general use and, with the help of Turner Construction, planted a new willow along the river. Meadowscaping for Biodiversity gifted a pollinator-friendly garden to the park. The garden is beside the eastern swale, next to the ball field.

Look for construction to happen on the east end of the park, beside the Cottage Farm Plant, in the next months. Under the stewardship of Magazine Beach Partners, an ADA-accessible canoe & kayak launch and outlook will soon be up and running. Thanks to DCR, the City of Cambridge, the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority and the community for helping to make this happen!

Summer programs will kick-off at the park Thursday, June 21 with Make Music Boston, 5-8pm, a Cambridge and Boston teen musical showcase. For further information about summer events, go to:
